Learning to Forgive My Husband’s Affair

Learning to Forgive My Husband’s Affair

It’s been a week now that I’ve been home after the Take Your Life Back retreat. I want to thank you both from the bottom of my heart. The work you do is amazing. I truly don’t know how you do it. Living through this kind of pain time and time again must be extremely difficult. Clearly, both of you are wanting to help us shattered people pick up the pieces of our lives. The weekend truly helped me feel calmer and more at peace.

There is still work to be done, however, this past week was one of the most Zen weeks I’ve had since learning about my husband’s infidelity. The music from the weekend helped to keep me centered when I was having negative thoughts or feelings.

Today wasn’t a very easy day. I started thinking about him with her together and was attempting to use some of the techniques I learned last weekend to keep the obsessive thoughts at bay. It wasn’t working so well so I thought I’d connect with some of the ladies from the group. Lo and behold there was a beautiful email from Coach Gayle with The Serenity Prayer. It was almost like it was waiting there, to calm me down and bring me back around to a more peaceful place. I am a true believer in “everything happens for a reason”.

My husband said he will do anything to get our marriage stronger and healthier once again. He is completely remorseful for what he did, but still doesn’t understand how he could have done what he did and hurt us so much. I came home and asked him to forgive me for the part I played in allowing our marriage to become stagnant. I am responsible for not being there for him the last 2 years.

I explained that I’ve forgiven myself, but I needed his forgiveness as well. We cried and cried but he was completely ready to let that go. I also explained that I was still not able to forgive him. He hasn’t forgiven himself yet and he can’t do that until he understands why he did what he did. He has agreed to go to the next Healing from Affairs couple’s retreat. He said he is terrified as he knows this will completely take him out of his comfort zone but he’ll do anything to repair the damage he’s caused.

Your marriage is truly an inspiration.
Your coaches are amazing.
The work you do is so healing and thoughtful.

Thank you Brian, Anne and your team for helping me take my life back.
